Matthew 1:18-25
Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph, being a righteous man and unwilling to expose her to public disgrace, planned to dismiss her quietly. But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, ‘Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.’ All this took place to fulfil what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet:
‘Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall name him Emmanuel’,
which means, ‘God is with us.’ When Joseph awoke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took her as his wife, but had no marital relations with her until she had borne a son; and he named him Jesus.
Found to Be
Mary was found to be with child…
Disgraceful.
…from the Holy Spirit.
What does she know?
Shepherds found the child lying in the manger.
Who will ever believe you?
“When you have found him, bring me word.” —King Herod (threatened)
Go back to where you came from.
“I have found in him no ground for the sentence of death.” —Pilate (threatened)
Crucify him.
“This son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.” —Prodigal Parent
I’ll believe it when I see it.
The women found the stone rolled away from the tomb.
Nonsense.
The men went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said.
It can’t be true.
You have found favor with God.
It’s true.
The men went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said.
Love defeats death.
The women found the stone rolled away from the tomb.
We believe the witness of the women.
“This son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.” —his mother Mary (I imagine)
Love has found you.
“I have found in him no ground for the sentence of death.”
You are free.
“When you have found him, bring me word.”
This is your home.
Shepherds found the child lying in the manger.
We hear the angel choir.
From the Holy Spirit…
Full of grace.
…Mary was found to be with child.
Wow, the minute the song started to play it brought me to my knees and tears. It is from the Little Prince. It was Cyndi‘a favorite movie and we watched it together in her last weeks. Man, somethings can just knock you over with memory/ grief. It is always there under the surface.
